"My
beautiful new home
in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, built by Hessman Trades,
Inc. (HTI Builders), is truly a fine place in which
to retire.
Working with Torry and his wife, April, was
an exciting and satisfying experience. Torry is
an excellent builder who continually requires his
workers and well-chosen subcontractors to do professional
work. I especially love how well insulated this
home is. Although I have all electric central air
and heat, it is seldom necessary to use either,
as the house is always cool in the summer and warm
in the winter because of the structured panels,
Hardi siding, wood paneling, and well constructed
placement of windows.
The roofing, foundation, inside framing, ballisters
and deck are solid and well built. The bedrooms,
bathrooms, and kitchen are very modern, beautiful,
and easy to keep. You cannot go wrong with
a Hessman Trades, Inc. home."

Traditional Construction With Super Insulation
Quality is always number one with HTI, therefore, we take the
traditional "stick frame" building seriously. Thick
2 x 6 exterior walls give you extra protection from the weather,
especially when you add environmentally friendly spray foam insulation with a fantastic R-value. The results have made our homeowners quite happy, including us!
HTI gives you choices when building your home with options for
flat bottom trusses, a scissor truss that gives you a vaulted
feeling, or the BCI roof joist system that raises your roof
to its limits.
Tell us what you'd
like to see in your new stick built dream home today!

Structural Insulated Panel Home
Tired of high heating costs and energy loss?
Thick structural insulated panels
are shown stacked here.
|
Imagine you’re barefoot on warm tile floors, pulling
hot, fresh cinnamon rolls from your oven. Structural Insulated
Panels bring that kind of warmth coupled with strength and
solid construction to your home.
Curled up in front of a cozy fire and listening to soft music
from your stereo, you’d never notice the blowing storm
just outside your home. Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)
are built airtight and gap free, keeping the unpredictable
outside environment outside - where it belongs.
SIPs are built specifically for your blueprints, so each panel
is perfectly connected to the next; incorporating the strength
SIPs are known for with the creativity of your unique design.
HTI has found that in almost every design, saving money and
time are the two most important factors. This being the case,
HTI encourages the use of ultra-energy efficient products
like Structural Insulated Panels.
This incredibly strong and efficient method of building has
become one of HTI's favorite. SIPs are extremely energy efficient,
lowering utility bills by 50% compared to traditional stick
built homes. SIPs contain extreme strength making them an
affordable quality structure with built-in insulation, sound-proofing
and fire resistance. SIPs are durable and the ease of construction
makes the building process quicker with lower labor costs.
SIP Highlights:
- SIPs are made with no gaps, so there is minimal loss of
energy through walls or roofs
- A 6 1/2" panel produces an insulation value of R-41,
a 4 1/2" panel, R-27. (These can be compared to most
traditional built homes' R-19 value.)
- Built airtight, SIPs can save you up to 50% per month
on heating and cooling costs
- Fire Resistant and ultra-quiet soundproofing
- Lower labor costs and less construction waste
- Environmentally friendly practices are used while making
the Panels
Don't let your next heating bill make you wish you'd moved
to Florida, let HTI help
you design and build a home using
amazing SIP panels today!

Straw Bale Home
Interested in building green and saving money on energy
costs?
With Straw Bale, you can build your castle and afford
to heat it too!
Picture yourself snuggled into a soft blanket while reading
your favorite author and relaxing in a special alcove built
just for this occasion. Straw bale walls are like mother earth
wrapping her warmth around you, they live and breathe just like
you, with a sense of peace and serenity.
The 24” walls of straw bale give you not only exceedingly
high R-values and soundproofing, but the ability to create those
special niches that make you feel like your home is unique and
one-of-a-kind. This is just one of the many features straw bale
construction offers.
HTI
builds homes encouraging all types of construction methods,
including the standard stick built; but if you want to save
money in the long run, you might consider looking into other
ways to create the home you desire with quality, efficiency,
and healthy aspects. Straw Bale construction is a viable alternative
to conventional construction. Homeowner's can get involved by
doing a lot of the straw bale construction themselves and HTI
encourages homeowners to be a big part of the building process.
HTI uses beautifully powerful post and beam construction
to complete the skeletal structure for its strength and beauty.
The post and beam structure adds balance to soft curves and
smooth finishes, giving you strength with grace. The outer
walls are in-filled with straw bales surrounded with metal
lathe and plaster.
The
bales are used primarily for insulation, however, the use
of straw bales is just another way of using the earth's resources
wisely and being environmentally conscious.
HTI is striving to keep up with all the new techniques that
straw bale can offer.
We will work with you and for you to create the most efficient,
effective, well designed home that incorporates all the benefits
of space, form and function.
Common misconceptions of building with straw include:
- Fire Safety - Fire is the number one
issue for most uninformed home builders, however, the compaction
of the bales make it impossible for them to combust.
- Rot - Getting your bales from the field
in a timely manner and not allowing them to get wet is a
big issue. Be ready for your bales when they arrive so they
are put into your walls immediately.
- Infestation of Rodents - The walls are
completely encapsulated in a thick plaster or stucco which
will keep any rodents from inhabiting the bales.
- Bank Loans and Mortgages - There are
many banks who are coming around to straw bale, but a if
you talk with your banker, let him/her know that your home
is a post & beam (for example) with "super insulation",
period.
A great web site is Ferg
and Sara's who take you through the step-by-step process
of building a straw bale home along with hints for saving
money. The U.S. Department of Energy's report on "Straw
Bale Coming of Age" is very interesting as well as
informative.
The image of straw bale construction is quickly changing,
and HTI is dedicated to the continued education of the public
on the benefits of straw bale.
